Maverick Minute

At the funeral, Maverick’s
great-grandfather said

This has to stop.

We won’t rest until everyone on a farm hears him.

Beloved Maverick and Great-Grandmother NancyWe won’t rest until everyone on a farm hears him.

June 23rd, 2025, was a Monday.

Let’s seize that day.

That Monday tragically claimed the lives of a vibrant four-year-old and his beloved great-grandmother. As always, it happened suddenly, in a moment of inattention during an otherwise typical, busy harvest.

The community around that Indiana farm rallied to finish harvesting the wheat, to plant beans, to raise funds and honor Maverick with an awesome memorial playground — even naming a fire truck after him.

But later, as two funerals were held back to back, people kept asking the widower / bereaved great-grandfather what they could do to help. At one point, as he grieved, imagining how things might have been different that day, he spontaneously texted a friend the advice to “Take a Maverick Minute.”

That friend posted on Facebook, “This is what Charlie wants people to do.”

So the movement began. The epidemic of farming deaths didn’t start with Maverick, but encouraging everyone to take a minute in his name can help end it.

“Take a Maverick Minute.”
